About Us

The Renville County Historical Society was organized in 1940 for the purpose of collecting, preserving, and sharing the history of Renville County.

Some Special Projects:
● Fixing the Flag Area and installing the United States Flag, Minnesota Flag and a Bench
● Rebuilding the Blacksmith Shop in the Machine Shed
● Digitizing newspapers, local records, and photographs
● Marking grave sites and Recording cemeteries

Genealogical Research and Resources:

The Renville County Genealogy Society and the Renville County Historical Society are working together to provide the public access to records, newspapers, census data, organization information, business records, photographs, and much more.  We are striving to provide this information in useful formats and as quickly as we can.  We welcome your suggestions and ideas.

The Renville County Historical Society also features a large research area that includes:

  • County Newspapers from 1870 to PRESENT on microfilm and hard copies
  • 1916 & 1980 Renville County histories, town & chruch anniversary books; Yearbooks from the Renville County schools
  • Surname Family Files
  • Platbooks dating back to 1888
  • Files on the towns and churches of Renville County
  • Volunteer researchers to help you with your search for a fee and much more!

Renville County Historical Society Research Fees

Research Fee: $20.00 per hour plus actual postage
Photocopies: 8 1/2″ x 11″ Black & White copies $0.25 each Color Copies $1.00 each; 11″ x 17″ Black & White Copies $0.50 each Color Copies $2.00 each
Photograph reprints (personal use only): $10.00 each
Photograph reprints for publication: $75.00 each high-resolution image
