This week has witnessed two of the saddest funerals held in this vicinity. Last Monday the remains of Private Ernest Hilding Nelson were laid to rest in the Swedlanda Cemetery. An unusually large gathering of friends and neighbors were present to pay final tribute to one of our boys who belonged to the country and died in its service. Rev. Bengston conducted the services and short addresses were also made by Rev. Berg and Atty. O. A. Allen. The Concordia choir and Miss Bengston rendered several musical selections. The true character and solemnity of the occasion was further enhanced by the presence of the military escorts who stood at attention as the body of their comrade was lowered to its final resting place.

The remains of Pvt. Arthur Theodore Ledin were interred in the Swedish Mission cemetery last Tuesday, the funeral services being attended by a large and sympathetic gathering. Rev. Berg delivered the funeral sermon and Rev. Bengston and Mr. Allen also made appropriate remarks. The soldiers were present on this occasion too, and several select musical numbers were rendered. Having been born and raised in this community these two boys were well known to everybody and the grief over their untimely death is common, though of course it cuts deepest in the hearts of their parents and near relatives. Thus the earthly existence of these young men is over, but their memory will long linger.
