This year has flown by! The Museum is open Monday-Friday 10 AM – 4 PM. Closed 12/24-25 and 1/1/2019 for the holiday! The Museum will be closed the month of January for exhibit updates and reorganization. If you need to do research, please call 507-697-6147 to make an appointment.

March 18 – April 26: West Central Minnesota Historical Association traveling World War I exhibit will be in the Main Museum. If you have a World War I connection please contact Nicole at the Museum so we can include your family’s history in the exhibit!

In May 2019 we will be exhibiting the formation of the Legion clubs in the 10 towns of Renville County. If you are a Legion or Legion Auxiliary member (2020 exhibit) please contact me. We are seeking charter membership lists for both organizations, images of those the posts are named after and other history of the Legions & Auxiliaries!

2019 Town of the Year Contest at the 2018 Renville County Fair brought in $257.40 in donations. Fairfax had $179.02 in donations and is the WINNER! The other towns raised: Hector $52.00, Danube $13.00, Sacred Heart $5.00, Buffalo Lake $4.25 and Renville $4.13. Fairfax will be the featured town for 2019 and we would like to encourage Fairfax residents to loan or donate items to make this exhibit as fantastic as the Franklin & Olivia exhibits were! We are going to partner with the Fairfax Depot to do a cross advertising to get more exposure for their organization! Please share this information with your friends & family with Fairfax connections!

2018 Book Sale: In the Heritage Building on the Museum Grounds. Proceeds from the Book Sale benefit the Renville County Historical Society’s General Fund. Fill a Bag $3.00! OPEN 10 AM – 4 PM Monday – Friday. Stop by the Main Museum to get access! There are a lot of awesome books!
2019 Dates to Remember
March 16: Annual Meeting 11 AM – 1 PM at the Lions Den in Fairfax, Minnesota $20 members / $30 non-members includes lunch! Presentation by Doug Ohman on the Minnesota Regiments involved in the Civil War & US-Dakota War of 1862.
March 18 – April 26: West Central Minnesota Historical Association traveling World War I exhibit will be in the Main Museum. This project was supported by the 10 counties of West Central Minnesota and the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant made possible by the Legacy Amendment’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on Nov. 4, 2008. The Legacy Amendment supports efforts to preserve Minnesota land, water and legacy, including Minnesota history and cultural heritage.
